The 2014 Ford Explorer gets numerous upgrades, initially seen in the 2013 Explorer Sport, that are now available across many of the Explorer model line. These upgrades include second-row heated seats, automatic headlamps and adaptive cruise control.
2014 Ford Explorer models include three rows of seats and hold six or seven passengers depending upon setup. Even the 2-passenger third row is habitable for grownups. The 2nd row features a 3-person bench or, and for added comfort, can be had with two pail seats. Both rear rows fold almost flat to produce a huge 80.7 cubic feet of cargo area, and both have power-folding availability. The big front seats are divided by a wide transmission tunnel with built-in armrests and 2 of the Explorer’s eight cupholders. Seat material is cloth in lower trims and natural leather in higher variations.
While not as boxy as previous variations, the 2014 Ford Explorer still has an athletic presence thanks to well-defined sheet metal that’s strengthened by bulges in simply the right places. Of particular prominence are creases running along the sides just aft the front wheels that share muscle and motion. At the rear is a one-piece liftgate. Below, dual exhaust ideas provide a sporty look. Sport models are edgier with an ebony grille, darkened wheels, and headlights with blackout therapy. Wheels variety in size from 17 to 20 inches.
